Vanessa Ferrari "Ponor Didn't Deserve To Qualify To Floor Final"

Missing out on an Olympic medal by a close margin can be devastating let alone missing it due to a tie breaking rule.

Italia's Vanessa Ferrari was one of three gymnasts who were prevented from winning an Olympic medal due to the tie breaking rule was not found in their favor.

With 14.900 Ferrari tied Russia's Aliya Mustafina but due to Mustafina having a higher execution score, Ferrari was dropped to 4th place.

Vanessa who was in third position till Mustafina performed her routine told Il Sole "This time i was so sure of winning a medal and then i got denied a chance of winning that medal because of someone who has a routine which its difficulty is less than mine with 0.3"

Vanessa's coach Enrico Casella believes that Vanessa was robbed of the Olympic floor medal since no gymnast in the floor final was better than her " None of these three gymnasts out performed Vanessa. The judging at the Olympics is different than the judging at the World championships and Europeans. We don't have to forget that we are Italy we are not the states or Romania or Russia, compared to them we are almost nobody. Vanessa deserved the third place and they didn't award her the medal"

Vanessa accused the judges of giving Romania's Catalina Ponor a score she didn't deserve at the qualification on floor as Ponor only did a simple full twisting tuck on one of her floor passes due to an error "Ponor didn't deserve to qualify to floor final" said Vanessa.

"I don't mean there is something behind the tie breaking rule but when such rule exists everything becomes questionable" said Vanessa's coach.

  1. Well instead of counting that full twisting tuck from qualifiers Ponor instead counted an extra C leap. The real reason she didn't qualify to floor final was because Iordache didn't.

  2. I understand she upset but she cant be ripping on Ponor who has no fault that Ferrari didnt medal on floor, actually Ponor must be understanding of her situation considering that she was also robbed of a medal, on beam. Now Ferrari's routine was better than Mustafina's FX and deserved bronze.

  3. Rich of her to complain when she won a gold medal with a fall, lol.

  4. Stupid judges! Vanessa Ferrari deserved a medal way more than Mustafina. This is coming from a Team Russia fan and I couldn't blame Vanessa for being so angry. I still can't get over the fact that Vanessa lost the bronze and that Aliya was so overscored
