In a ‘DWTS’ package clip shown before Shawn and Derek hit the dance floor Monday, they discussed the routine. Derek talked about their decision to reproform the controversial Quickstep routine they performed earlier in the season. He said, “This is going to be our statement dance.” Shawn replayed by being devil’s advocate, “Is it worth it to take a risk and not get a perfect score? I mean, can we afford that?” He responded, “It all comes down to this last week. To fall off the last hurdle would be devastating, I suppose. I’m definitely nervous that we’ll get the same scores we got last time, that could mean the difference between winning and losing. But that’s how we’ve played this entire season. Taking risks.”
Then he challenged her with a trick question, “Do we go out there to entertain people or do we go out there to get points?”
Shawn has said from the beginning that this was a season dedicated to her fans, so it was only fitting that she said “I want to go out there and entertain. We’ve broken a lot of rules but in the end the standing ovations mean everything to us.” However, their high energy Quickstep earned them an 8.5, 9 and 9.5, landing them behind Melissa and Kelly Monaco in last place.

But the real treat was yet to come. In their "Supersize freestyle" preformance Shawn and Derek invited the fierce five to be apart of their routine. The seven did trick after trick, and shawn preformed the dance elements with "precision" as said by judge Carrie Ann. They recieved three perfect 10s, but it wasnt enough to make up for their previous preformance.
On Tuesday night they wowed the crowd with an Instant Cha Cha that earned them three 10′s and their coveted standing Ovation, sadly it still wasnt enough.
Melissa and her pro partner Tony Dovolani won the competition. Immediatley after the winner was announced, social media sites like twitter and facebook exploded with complaints. Many claim that it was obvious that Shawn had the biggest fan base, as well as good scores. Some sources claim that the judges purposfully gave Shawn and Derek low scores because they wanted a different winner. After all, Derek had won three times before. Some sites claim that they have evidence that "Shawnough" (as dubbed by fans) had approx. 230,000 more votes than Melissa. But whatever the case may be, Shawn is proud to have made it this far. She thanked Derek, saying ""Coming into the show, I tried to put on a front just saying I'm here to have fun, laugh and be merry. I really was at a low point personally,I had lost the career I had fell in love with and I didn't know where to find that confidence again. Derek gave me that."
Shawn Johnson could have won... if she stuck to the rules. But then again, that has never been her or Derek's style. They dedicated this season to the fans, and as Len Goodman said, "did not disappoint".
